At Turnagain Dental, we always do our best to keep your teeth healthy, but sometimes a tooth needs to be removed, whether due to trauma, decay, crowding, or other factors. If you need an extraction, you can be confident that you are in good hands with Anchorage dentist Dr. Dominic Wenzell.
Our staff has the knowledge and experience to perform most oral surgeries without referring you to a specialist. Whether you are having your wisdom teeth removed or are beginning the dental implant process, we can take care of you with the level of professionalism and compassion you expect and deserve.
Extraction of Wisdom Teeth
Many of us will need to have our wisdom teeth extracted at some point in our lives. Wisdom teeth, or third molars, are the final teeth to grow in, usually between the age of 16 and 25. Some people are fortunate and have no problems with their wisdom teeth; however, in many cases, these teeth can become impacted, meaning there is not enough room in the jaw to accommodate the wisdom teeth, so they grow in at an angle.
Impacted wisdom teeth can lead to many other issues, including damage to nearby teeth, pain or discomfort, and decay. These impacted teeth may remain below the surface of the gums or may partially erupt through the gums, causing additional pain and inflammation. Impacted wisdom teeth should be removed as soon as possible to minimize the damage to surrounding teeth and prevent potential infections.
When a tooth becomes damaged or decayed beyond the ability to be saved, the best option is extraction. Extracting teeth that are beyond treatment will help to keep your overall oral health higher and prevent the pain and infection that can occur if a damaged tooth is left untreated in your mouth. We perform a wide variety of extractions right in our dental office, and will only refer you to an oral surgeon if it is necessary to ensure the best outcome.
When teeth have been lost or extracted, there are many options to restore these missing teeth, but the best option available in most cases is a dental implant. Implants combine a titanium implant that is placed in the jaw and allowed to fuse with the bone with a beautiful, natural-looking restoration in the form of a dental crown or bridge.
Many dentists require a separate visit to an oral surgeon to place the titanium implant, but at Turnagain Dental we are proud to offer this service in-house. We can complete the full implant process from start to finish without sending you to a stranger for your implant placement. We strive to offer the best experience to our patients, and Dr. Wenzell has received additional training to ensure the best outcome for your implants. If bone grafts are needed to increase bone mass for proper implant placement, we offer this service in-office as well.
